The Exeter and Torbay Group

We are the local group of IAM RoadSmart for car drivers in Exeter, Torbay and the rural areas of East, Mid and South Devon – Exeter and Torbay Advanced Motorists (or ETAM for short).

(Motorcycle groups and car groups covering adjoining areas are listed on the links page).

ETAM was formed in the early 1970s and exists to help members to become more confident and safer drivers. This is achieved by preparing people (associates) to take the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driving Test in order to become full IAM members.

We also arrange bi-monthly meetings at Kennford near Exeter for all members (including associates, observers, full members, friends and guests).  These meetings could take the form of driving theory talks, practical driving sessions and other events of driving, social or general interest. To find out what is going on over the next few months go to the Events page.

Usually a new member (associate) is allocated to a qualified trainer (observer or senior observer) on an individual basis at a meeting place convenient to both. They will together go out in the associate’s vehicle for a suitable number of drives, following the advice in IAM RoadSmart’s Advanced Driving course materials (supplied).

We hope to see you at one of our meetings soon, where you will be welcomed and will be able to get to know us better.  Alternatively, contact us to find out more.
